Practicing ethically can be a challenge in many professional work spaces, with forensic settings being especially difficult to navigate. FSWA is proud to present the Forensic Social Work Ethics Series, an event that will tackle some of the most critical ethical issues forensic social workers encounter in their daily work. Each segment of this 4-CE credit hour series will focus on how to resolve a specific ethical conflict or dilemma common in forensic social work.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent in forensic social work and, more broadly, the behavioral health professions. AI is being used to conduct client risk assessments; assist people in crisis; strengthen prevention efforts; document clinical services; provide supervision and training; conduct research; identify systemic biases in the delivery of services; and predict practitioner burnout and service outcomes, among other uses. This presentation will examine cutting-edge ethical issues related to forensic social workers’ use of AI; apply relevant ethical standards; and outline key elements of a strategy for practitioners’ ethical use of AI. Join Dr. Frederic Reamer as he examines ethical issues and risks related to informed consent and client autonomy; privacy and confidentiality; transparency; potential client misdiagnosis; client abandonment; client surveillance; plagiarism, dishonesty, fraud, and misrepresentation; algorithmic bias and unfairness; and use of evidence-based AI tools.
